Divisibility Rule for 7

Divisibility Rule of 7:This rule is used to check whether a number is divisible by 7 or not without performing long division. The rule states that remove the last digit from the number, double it and subtract the doubled number from the remaining number. Repeat the process till we get one digit or two digit number check the number if it is divisible by 7 then the number is divisible by 7.

Illustration: Check whether 3101 is divisible by 7?

Solution:  Step 1: From 3101 take off the last digit of the number which was 1

Step 2:  Double the removed digit and subtract it  310. That is  310 - 2 = 308

Step 3: Repeat the process by taking off the 8 from  308.

Step 4: Doubling it we get 16 which is subtracted from 30. That is 30-16 = 14

Step 5: The result is 14 which is a multiple of 7.

Hence the number is divisible by 7
